Aedas Presents Matthew Andrew

Aedas Presents is pleased to announce its fifth exhibition featuring the artist Matthew Andrew on 14 July 2011. Matthew’s work explores one’s preconceptions of what a reference photograph should be, and how much information is conveyed to the viewer using a visual medium such as photography. He is interested in the relationship between truth, knowledge and photographic representation.

The exhibition will run 14-22 July at Aedas’ Birmingham Office.

THENETWERK® – An Introduction

thenetwerk® is a photography research group formed by UCS lecturers Heike Löwenstein and Matthew Andrew with colleagues based across East Anglia, UK.

Since 2008 they have been focused on opening up a dialogue based around photography research, and research based practice. The upcoming show THENETWERK® – An Introduction is the culmination of their efforts so far.

Recently joined by Geoff Buono (UCS), the three are going to exhibit several large photographic works.

Matthew Andrew shows ‘The Rise and The Fall and Tautology’ which question the relationship between the photographic document and the archive.

Geoff Buono shows ‘blackpool beach’ and ‘new york pools’. His works are essentially about the location in which they were produced, documenting everyday human activity and its natural environment.

Heike Löwenstein shows ‘Identity/Dislocation’, an ongoing examination of the effects of alienation from home and its impact on identity. She also shows work in progress: ‘PeopleSpaces’, an investigation into the construction of identity and the impact of an environment upon the constructed self.

thenetwerk® is currently based at BA(Hons) Photography in the Suffolk School of Arts in Ipswich at University Campus Suffolk (UCS).
Please visit http://thenetwerk.org for more info.

The show opens at 3pm on 09 April 2009 and runs until 26 April. It is open daily from 9am – 6pm. The Closing View will be on 23 April from 5pm – 8pm
