About
thenetwerk® is a photography research group formed by practitioners/ lecturers based across East Anglia, UK.
They are all engaged in photography on a research and practice level, and are also interested in interdisciplinary-based practices.
Primarily the aim of this site is to explore and enrich their practice and research, and offer a platform for critical debate.
thenetwerk® is currently based at BA(Hons) Photography in the School of Arts and Humanities in Ipswich at University Campus Suffolk (UCS).
The founding members are Heike Löwenstein and Matthew Andrew, from UCS, and Paul Grace from Norwich University College of the Arts (formerly NSAD).
Along the way Geoff Buono (UCS) has joined as a new member and Pat Hurrell from UCS, Dr. Mark Haywood (CLEAR, University of Cumbria) and John Donaldson (meatyardarts) have joined as contributors.
In 2009 thenetwerk® and UCS have together announced thenetwerk® Award which will be given yearly to one graduating student of the BA (Hons) Photography to published criteria. The award comprises access to the UCS facilities and tutorial support from thenetwerk® members for one year. This is used by the graduate to realise the proposed project which then will be exhibited in the Waterfront gallery at UCS.
In 2009 the joint winners were Virginia Ingr and Jonathan Cheney, in 2010 the award was given to Philippe Wrigley.
We have also created a section for those alumni from the BA (Hons) Photography at UCS that have expressed a keen interest to share and discuss their ongoing projects on this and other platforms.
